Basic level A1 - B1
The learning basis in these courses is always a concrete everyday situation, which originates from the experience (family, shopping, job, leisure time, hobbies, etc.). This motivates participants, because it gives them a direct advantage: They learn how to behave in Germany in specific situations and in certain areas of life. Grammatical structures and vocabulary are taken from such situations and can be used through graphical illustration, role-playing and scenic presentation. Grammar and vocabulary work is therefore not an end in itself but aims to improve a concrete life situation linguistically and sociologically. Grammatical structures are deepened and consolidated orally and in writing after a phase of development. We follow the idea of a spiral curriculum, which means that already acquired linguistic structures are repeated at regular intervals. From the point of view of brain research and psychology of learning, this kind of teaching is indispensable, since learning involves a high proportion of repetition. We do not see our course participants in a passive consumer role. Our goal is to activate and motivate them to gain their own linguistic experience inside and outside of the language classroom, and to develop joy in their own growing linguistic competence through this attitude.
Intermediate B2 and Advanced C1
The learning methodology expands at this level. Increasingly, film scenes, news, articles from magazines and newspapers are increasingly used as working material. Since most of the participants who attend these levels want to improve their German regarding their profession or a course of study, the possibilities for using the possible uses of the extended language competence. Nevertheless, linguistic basics (verb order, sentence structure, participles) are constantly repeated and deepened until a high level of proficiency is achieved for all participants. Participants reach a high level of confidence and sovereignty in the use of the German language. The participants are given the task of demonstrating in smaller presentations that they are able to work out and present them independently. For this purpose, shorter or longer texts are also regularly written which the instructor then analyses personally or in a plenary session and gives the participant feedback and and, if necessary, help. We also place great emphasis on vocabulary development, using synonyms and idioms for both colloquial and idiomatic expressions.
TestDaF exam preparation
The TestDaF exam requires a language level of B2 - C1. In our preparation courses, strategies are worked out and made transparent so that the course participants can successfully and confidently take the TestDaF exam. The specific requirements of the 4 subtests (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression, oral expression) are systematically developed and trained using model tests. The focus of the preparation course is on the acquisition of a basic academic vocabulary that will prepare students for the level of the TestDaF examination and for university life. For the oral expression exam, students are familiarized with the situation of communicating without an interlocutor. The examinee is given the task of responding to an acoustic speech impulse by speaking his or her answer into a recording device. Working within the given tight time frame is also trained, so that the examination candidate can develop a sense of time for the exam situation and then experience it as stress-free. In our preparation courses we use training material that has been recommended to us by the TestDaF Institute and corresponds to the TestDaF examination level.
